The Applied English major hosted a birthday party to celebrate the 70th year birthday for foreign teacher Laihar Wong to thank her for her long time contribution to the major. Hwa Nan colleagues and alumnae were invited to join the party.
Laihar Wong taught in Hwa Nan from 1993 to 2003. In 2003, she went to Guizhou Minzu University teaching English in the minority area as a volunteer. In 2006, she came back to Hwa Nan and continued her teaching. She has been teaching in Hwa Nan for 21 years, teaching courses of English Speaking, English Reading and Writing and instructing students for English skit contests and English speaking contests.
Due to her outstanding contribution to women’s higher education in Fujian province, in 2015 she was honored Friendship Award of Fujian province for foreigners working in the province to commend her contribution to the development of the province.
Lai Har impresses her students with her patience in correcting their mistakes, giving extra help to academically disadvantaged students and encouraging them never give up.
She is very devoted to her job. For many years, she volunteered to be responsible for running the English corner. Every Friday night, she was waiting in English corner for students to join the English speaking practice.
