On May 18, FAO arranged a tour for foreign teachers to Kuliang, a famous summer resort in Fuzhou. President Su was invited to join the trip.
The group first came to the Cryptomeria Cypress King Park, where a huge and imposing 1,300 year old cypress reigns over the area. The vibrant and lush Cryptomeria Cypress King tree of 30m in height, about 10m in circumference and 3.2m in diameter is protected in the list of Chinese ancient and precious trees. The tree is split on the main trunk where it divides into two branches, called Man and Wife. Beside the tree, a sweet and mellow spring water sprouts all year round inexhaustible.
The group also visited historic buildings, Yi Xia Villa(Sino-American Friendship House), Kuliang Old Post Office (one of the five famous "summer post offices" of China), Wanguo Charity Association(the earliest club of Fuzhou), the hundred year old swimming pool, the old public well and the church.
Several hour short visit give foreign teachers opportunity to see the summer resort at 800 meter high altitude where the foreign residents gathered from the late 1800s until the end of World War 2 and summered with locals in harmony and with mutual assistance. Foreign teachers sought common feelings in the stories of Cultural integration. They are inspired to promote exchanges and tell stories of cultural exchanges well.
