The First Maritime Silk Road Cheongsam Culture Invitational Competition

 

On Oct. 26, the first Maritime Silk Road Fuzhou Cheongsam Culture Invitational Competition was held in Hwa Nan.  The competition was initiated by Hwa Nan alumna Chen JingxuanChair of Fuzhou Cheongsam Association.

Hwa Nan Council Chair Su Mengna in her remarks told the story of cheongsam and Hwa Nan.  Cheongsams as school uniform are shown frequently in the old pictures of Hwa Nan College from which we can appreciate the youth beauty of Hwa Nan women in the old days.  Six years ago, Hwa Nan decided to make the college anniversary a Cheongsam Day, on which a Hwa Nan family photo is taken with all faculty members wearing Cheongsams.  Today, Chen Jingxuan, an outstanding Hwa Nan graduate is making bold exploration and progress in the beauty business of women.  Su said the beauty of cheongsams lies both in its look and style, which is the same as Hwa Nan’s goal and objective of developing its students to be the whole person.

The contestants have made to the finals after the preliminary rounds in various regions of the province.  Their ages range from eleven to seventy-one.  In the final, they dressed up in Chinese clothing, Qipao and evening Qipao to fully display fashion, elegance and dignity.

Eight students from Hwa Nan competed in the final.  Before the competition, students from Class 2018 of Image Design offered them the services of choosing dress, pairing dresses with the right accessories, making alterations, ironing dresses, and doing makeovers.  Eight students lived up to the expectations and achieved prizes.  Chen Yifang from Cabin Crew Training won the highest award of Jasmine International Perfection Prize.  Lin Bi from Image Design and Guo Kaicheng from Public Affairs Management received the awards of the Most Classical Chinese Style.  Liu Keyi from Cabin Crew Training got the Best Dress and Fashion Sense.  Zhang Wenting from Cabin Crew Training obtained Best Cheongsam Runway Performance.  Wu Wenying from Cabin Crew Training was given the Best Evening Dress and Fashion Sense Prize.  Lin Binyao from Art Design and Chen Zhenghuan from MICE Planning and Management obtained the Best Potential Model prizes.
