The First English Teaching Contest Held in Hwa Nan

On the afternoon of April 24, the first English Teaching Contest was held.  President Su Mengna and Teaching Supervisor He Xiaozhi observed the contest.  President of Overseas Education College from Fujian Business University Professor He Wenxian, President of Straits College of Tourism from Fujian Polytechnic of Information Technology Professor Wei Zhengzhu, Associate Professor Liu Rong from Fujian University of Engineering, and English Teaching Consultant Dr. Laihar Wong were invited to sit in the judge’s panel.

The English Teaching Contest is sponsored by alumnae of Class 1993 of Applied English for the purpose of enhancing English teaching quality and level, promoting English teacher team building and English teacher development, deepening teaching reform and exploring the construction of a unique English teaching system of Hwa Nan.  Chair Chen Weiwei of Tourism Service Department was the MC of the contest.

Seven teachers competed in the contest, namely Yuan Yuan, Meishan Roen, Sylvia Lam from Department of Education, Zhen Shaoying from Department of Basic Courses,  Huang Yunwen from Tourism Service Department, Lin Xiao and Song Huili from International Business Management Department.  They all demonstrated good professional competence by giving active classes in natural and easy manner.  Judges evaluate the aspects of teaching content, teaching process, teaching effects, overall performance and teaching innovations.  After fierce competition, the special prize goes to Zheng Shaoying.  Yuan Yuan wins the first prize.  Huang Yunwen and Lin Xiao receive the second prize.  Song Huili, Meishan Roen and Sylvia Lam are awarded the third prize.

After the contest, Professor He Wenxian was invited to make an excellent review of the contest.  He fully affirmed teachers’ English proficiency and their new innovative teaching design and he proposed improvement suggestions on enhancing English classroom teaching ability, advancing teachers’ professional competency and creating active classes.

The English Teaching Contest promotes English teaching of Hwa Nan and offers opportunity for English teachers to exchange and learn from each other for mutual progress and improvement.
