At 8:30 on March 1, classes of all majors started as scheduled at the same time on line. To ensure the normal teaching order, the Dean’s Office conducted several rounds of training for all teachers of online teaching software usage, made contingency plans to cope with the potential problems in online teaching, and made full preparations for smooth operation of online teaching. Teachers used the learning platform to distribute teaching videos, files, tests, homework, PPT and discussion topics, and followed the real-time “backstage” data to monitor students’ learning. In class, teachers interacted with students frequently, used various teaching tools appropriately and tackled many challenges such as network malfunction properly. As a result, the teaching was undertaken in an effective and orderly way.
Hwa Nan leverages the advantage of online teaching. On the basis of online course platforms of Chinese University MOOC, Provincial Higher Education Course Platform, ChaoXing, and Treenity, it facilitates proper use of Dingtalk, Tencent Classes, QQ, and WeChat, and provides various patterns of online teaching, mainly online course independent study, livestreaming seminar, and recorded teaching with online Q&A, teachers’ streaming demonstration for practice courses, student online practice and real time feedback of learning results as supporting approaches.
Administrators, deans, advisors, and student counselors carefully choreographed First Classe for Spring Semester 2021, featuring the topics of I love China for Department of Educaion, Epidemic Prevention and Fitness for Department of Health Services, Patriotic Education for Department of International Business & Management, Salute Border-defending Heroes for Department of Art and Design, and Salute Karakoram Martyrs for Department of Tourism Services. All teachers and students attended the First Class and took this ideological and political theory course of patriotic education. Departments also focused on the physical and psychological health of students by disseminating epidemic prevention knowledge and safety education.
