President Xi Jinping Meets Hwa Nan Foreign Teachers Gordon Trimble and Sonia Trimble


On the evening of November 15, 2023 local time, President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at a welcome dinner hosted by friendly organizations in the United States in San Francisco of the U.S.  President Xi recounted China-U.S. friendly exchange history and reviewed the bonds forged between him and American friends.  He said the foundation of China-U.S. relations was laid by our peoples, the door of China-U.S. relations was opened by our peoples, the stories of China-U.S. relations are written by our peoples and the future of China-U.S. relations will be created by our peoples. Xi stressed that China and the US galvanize the two peoples into a strong force to renew China-U.S. friendship, advance China-U.S. relations, and make even greater contributions to world peace and development.

President Xi’s speech touched the hearts of American friends at the welcome dinner.  Kuliang story is one reflection of China-U.S. people-to-people friendship promoted by President Xi.   Hwa Nan foreign teacher Gordon Trimble and his wife Sonia Trimble as members of Kuliang Friends were invited to attend the welcome dinner and meet with President Xi Jinping.

When meeting with President Xi, Gordon said, “In 1990, you visited Fujian Hwa Nan Women’s College and the school still remember the visit.”  Then Sonia said, “I am very happy to meet you.  I am honored.  Thank you for giving us the inscription, so the students are still inspired by your words.”

The news quickly spread to Hwa Nan.  Teachers and students are highly encouraged and uplifted.  Hwa Nan organized teachers and students to watch the China Southeast TV interview with the Trimbles.  Students and teachers were touched by the love of the Trimbles for Hwa Nan.  Surge of interest in studying the gist of President Xi Jinping's inscription of  “Women are not inferior to men, and many outstanding women are cultivated in Hwa Nan" spread across the campus.  Teachers and students said President Xi’s inscription provides them inexhaustible power to make continuous and concerted efforts to achieve greater success of Hwa Nan for contributing to the development of the local economy.
