On January 20, Dr. Isiaah Crawford, University of Pudget Sound president, and two other accompanies paid a visit to Hwa Nan. Thirty years ago, Fuzhou and Tacoma on the west coast of USA became sister cities. The friendship between Hwa Nan and University of Pudget Sound has also been established for thirty years.
In the morning, accompanied by former President Lin Benchun, International Business Management Program Director Wu Yuanyuan, and FAO staff, the delegation visited the original site of Hwa Nan College, Hwa Nan Yan Tai Shan campus, and the Photo Gallery of Foreign Expert House, learning about Fuzhou culture and foreign teachers’ contribution in reestablishing Fujian Hwa Nan Women’s College.
In the afternoon, the delegation came to the Qishan Campus. Accompanied by Council Chair Yu Rongmin, President Ren Jianhong, and Vice President Huang Leijing, they learned about the history, the achievement and international exchanges of Hwa Nan and spoke highly of Hwa Nan’s long education history, Hwa Nan’s great contribution to women’s education in China, and Hwa Nan teachers and students’ patriotism and perseverance during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. The delegation listened to Hwa Nan students’ English presentation about Chinese culture and history. They praised Hwa Nan students’ English speaking skill and affirmed Hwa Nan’s English teaching outcome.
The two schools held discussions on topics of sending Pudget Sound graduates to teach in Hwa Nan, reciprocal visits, Asian Scholar Project, Credit Transfer, “3+1” Bachelor Program, and “3+1+1” Master Program. The two sides wish to build up close ties and continue cooperation. In the future, two schools will strengthen ties, expand cooperation, and consolidate the cooperative results, which will make opening a distinctive feature for the education of Hwa Nan.
