The Trimbles Hosted An Event Themed on the Centennial Love of China


On April 27, Hwa Nan foreign teachers and members of the Friends of Guling, Mr. and Mrs. Trimble held a theme activity the Trimbles’ Love at Guling, demonstrating the profound meaning of the Guling Spirit  and its far-reaching influence on the friendship between Chinese and American people.  President Ren Jianhong, Vice President Huang Leijing, Deputy Party Secretary Wu Lanjia attended the event.  Former President Lin Benchun, representatives from provincial and municipal friendly units and some teachers and students of Hwa Nan were invited to attend the event.

At the event, Professor Gordon Trimble affectionately told the story of four generations of the Trimble family and their love of Guling.  Seven students from the Department of Culture and Education and the Department of International Business Management gave brief introductions on the topics of the love of Guling, the centenary old Hwa Nan, the founder of Hwa Nan Lydia Trimble, the friendship between Hwa Nan and the University of Puget Sound, and Hwa Nan’s social services .

Students reviewed the Trimbles’ 20 year teaching career at Fujian Hwa Nan Women’s College, their 30 year long practice of sponsoring graduates of the University of Puget Sound to teach in Hwa Nan, and their first visit of Fuzhou 35 years ago.

The day of the event held was the birthday of Professor Gordon Trimble.  Hwa Nan specially prepared a birthday cake and flowers for him.  President Ren Jianhong, Vice president Huang Leijing and students presented flowers to the Trimbles.  President Ren also presented a commemorative photo album to Professor Gordon Trimble, thanking him for his dedication to teaching and to training students over so many years.
