Century-Long Bond: Trimble Family Legacy Shines at 2025 Kuliang Forum in NYC

On November 25 local time, the 2025 Kuliang Forum was held in New York, USA, jointly organized by People’s Daily Digital Communication Co., Ltd. and Global Times Co., Ltd. Hwa Nan foreign teachers Mr. and Mrs. Trimble were invited to attend the forum. Professor Gordon Trimble delivered a keynote speech, sharing with guests from various sectors in China and the United States the century-spanning profound bond between his family and Fujian. “My family’s bond with Fujian has now spanned an entire century,” said Professor Gordon in his speech, his heartfelt narration moving the audience deeply. He recounted his family’s memories of China: his father, Robert Trimble, was born in China; his grandfather, Dr. Charles Garnet Trimble, once served as a surgeon at Nanping Hospital; and seven relatives in the family took root in Fujian in their early years, dedicating themselves to education. They participated in founding Hwa Nan Women’s College and several other institutions, nurturing the blossoms of education in Fujian with passion. From retiring and settling in Fuzhou with his wife Sonia to teach, to guiding students in experiencing the “Kuliang Spirit,” and now to taking the stage at the New York forum, Gordon and his wife have consistently continued to deepen their family's bond with China through action.
